Went out to west Texas this week to do a little work. It is a beautiful part of the state, full of lonely highways, rugged mountains and flat deserts. The people are both tough and friendly. I love it. This picture was taken at our work site off of Highway 17 halfway between Pecos and Balmorhea. Shortly after I took it, a coyote peeked out from behind that little mound of dirt in the foreground and then ran off to the west.

sweet pic man!! its cool that you found a positive side of west texas.
Thanks for sharing the photo. It's great how you always find time to soak up the beauty in the landscape around you. So many just let it all pass by too consumed with their task.
This great picture came to me via my google filter for "Balmorhea." I enjoyed your Dec.6 journal entry as well and I am proud to say that I moved to Balmorhea in order to swim San Soloman Springs, having been a daily "Polar Bear" in Austin at Barton Springs for so many years. Sadly, I have only visited the springs here 3 or 4 times.
As for your "pie chart" in the food category you listed on 12/6/06, make mine pecan, a favorite not only in West Texas, where at your back in the picture you posted, at some miles distance, is quite a large pecan orchard as well as to your left, just outside of Balmorhea beside IH-10; but also, in all of Texas, all the way to Groves, Texas, in the southeast, where the Aggies planted pecan orchards in the suburbs of Port Arthur in the early 1900s. --
GodBless, Nameste, and be safe on your journey. -cliffhammond (PS: I had to quickly set up a blogspot to post this comment....the picture was worth my efforts to comment!)
Cliff - Thanks for the great comment. You live in a great part of the country. I will be checking your site periodically to see if you've posted any thoughts. I'm guessing you've got a got of great stories.
